Merappukaayi gilli sambar. (Plain sambar)

Ingredients:

Toor dal 1.5 cup
Tomato medium size 3 No’s
Onion 1 No’s
Garlic 5/ 6 teeth
Turmeric powder 0.25 tsp
Asefatoeda a pinch
Tamarind juice : 2 tbs
Salt: to taste
Red dry chillies: 5
Curry leaves: chopped 2 spoons
Coriander leaves: chopped 2 spoons
urad dal, jeera, mustard seeds, oil. All in small quantities for seasoning.

Procedure:
Add dal, tomato, half onion, garlic, turmeric powder, asefatoeda to 1.5 cups water and boil in a pressure cooker  for 5 or 6 whistles. Once cooked, and pressure reduces, smash the dal add salt and tamarind juice.
Heat 2 tbs oil in a pan. Add a pinch of hing and seasoning, dry chillies, half onion chopped, curry leaves, garlic mashed  to the oil. Fry till onion turns golden brown. Add the boiled content from cooker to pan and allow it to cook for 4-5 mins. Add coriander leaves garnish.

Sambar ready!
